Dr. William "Bill" Saunders of Smyrna, passed away October 11, 2016.

Dr. Bill Saunders was a pioneer in Preventive and Ortho Molecular Medicine . He was born in Edison, GA in 1928.He enrolled in Georgia Tech in 1948, but realized that mechanical engineering would not bring him the satisfaction out of life which he desired. He dropped out in 1951 and worked his way to Europe to begin a seven year quest for satisfaction and fulfillment in life.He studied at the Sorbonne, the University of Vienna, and the University of Istanbul, worked on a Norwegian freighter from Marseilles to the Belgian Congo and back, cycled from Germany to India and walked the length and breadth of East Bengal. Upon his return home in 1957, he started his pre-med studies. He graduated from Medical College of Georgia, interned in St. Louis and traveled to Iran where he married Monireh Partovi and went with his bride to the Republic of Congo to work with the Congolese Public Health Service after studying tropical medicine at Lovanium University in Kinshasa. In 1968 they returned to Georgia with their African born son, Zia, where he started a private practice in Austell GA, He became disillusioned and he returned to Africa on a USAID project to rehabilitate a hospital in the war zone in Nigeria. After six months there, he became so seriously ill that he had to return to US. While recuperating in Georgia, he attended preventive medicine seminars and became extensively educated in the field of Preventive Medicine. This started him on an intensive investigation to learn as much as he could about this infant science, and investigation which continues unabated to the present.

Dr. Saunders' extensive studies and experience in all aspects of life in numerous cultures and countries prepare him in a unique manner to pioneer and develop the field of Preventive Medicine in a practical and useful manner for his patients and for the public
